Business support for women: from starting out to your first million

"Business support" gets used to mean everything and nothing. In practice, what a woman needs depends entirely on the stage she is in — and getting stage-appropriate help is the difference between a business that compounds and one that stays a very demanding job. Here is what each stage actually needs, and where to get it.

What you need at each stage

Stage 1 — Starting out (0 to 12 months)

Foundations, not tactics

Most new businesses stall because the basics were never set: a clear offer, legal and financial structure, pricing that leaves a margin, and one repeatable way to find customers. Support at this stage means someone showing you what order to do things in.

Stage 2 — Getting traction (1 to 2 years)

Positioning and a sales process

Revenue exists but it is unpredictable. What helps is sharper positioning so the right people self-select, plus a sales conversation you can repeat without discounting or discomfort.

Covered live at WOW by Jacine Drummond and Dean Keating.

Stage 3 — Scaling (2+ years, pre-million)

Visibility, leverage and systems

The founder becomes the bottleneck. Support here looks like authority building so leads arrive warm, AI and automation for the repeatable work, and clean numbers so decisions stop being reactive.

Stage 4 — Beyond the first million

Wealth, energy and staying in the game

Profit needs a job, and the founder needs a way to lead without burning out. That means investing strategy, funding for growth, and the self-leadership work most business advice skips entirely.

Covered live at WOW by Jeremy Britton and Billie Robinson.

The kinds of support available

Business coaching for women
One-to-one or group coaching to work on your specific business. Best when you already know your gaps and need accountability.
Conferences and live events
Two or three days of frameworks across sales, marketing, brand, AI and money, plus a room of founders at your level. Best for a step change in direction.
Community and membership
Ongoing support between the big moments, so momentum does not stop when the event ends.
Mentors and peer circles
Women a few years ahead of you who will answer the awkward questions honestly.
Funding and growth capital
Understanding what lenders and investors actually look for before you need the money.

How to choose what is worth your money

  • Ask what the person or event has actually built. Operators who have scaled and rebuilt give better answers than people teaching from a textbook.
  • Match the support to your bottleneck. If sales are the problem, brand work will not fix it, and the reverse is just as true.
  • Check you leave with decisions, not just motivation. Frameworks you can apply on Monday are the test.
  • Look at the room. The founders around you set your standards more than any slide does.
